Profs, Medical students and Dengue- behind the scenes and after effects.

Dengue proved out to be a major epidemic this year in Pakistan which affected people from all fields of life including medical students. Many of the medical students were affected by dengue right before their annual professional exams were about to commence. This led to a serious problem because they were not able to prepare for their exams. It was just two days before that all the students specially from Lahore, the most affected with dengue, and from faisalabad decided to unite and to ask University of health sciences to delay 1st professional part 2 exams.


Listening to their rightful demand, UHS postponed the exams but just for a week. Was it their lack of insight or knowledge of the fact that dengue isnt a thing to be wiped off the map in just a week? Still remains a question. Anyways, situation worsened instead of getting any better. So once again students from government and private medical colleges of Lahore went for a strike but UHS didn't hear to them this time. Finally YDA joined in and after Vice chancellor UHS rejected their demand, they met CM punjab who ordered to delay all the professional exams for a period of one month.
Now when all the exams have been delayed, will it be possible to control dengue outbreak in the city and will it be possible to conduct exams in the month of november when dengue has been predicted to reach its peak. Its for sure that UHS is not going to delay the prof any further and rightly so. They have to hold the exams anyway. But what will be the criteria for those students who still catch the fever roght before their exams? It's still going to be a big exam for all the students. What are they gonna do in that situation. One thing that they can do is to participate in dengue awareness programs to the extent that they can. After all, profs have been delayed for the dengue, not for them to study more. So if they ask to delay prof with the reason being dengue, it becomes their responsibility to work for the cause. Even if they do little, it's gonna count. United, we can do all.
